Former police detective Nicholas Marten is asked to travel to Africa by the president where he learns about abuses by mercenaries hired to protect oil workers. When rebels attack and murder a German priest, Marten must find out who he can trust before an all-out war begins.

Sequel to The Machiavelli Covenant by can stand alone. Fast-paced and entertaining, but some long narrative passages can be hard to digest. Recommended.
