Satirizing advertising and consumer culture is more or less like shooting fish in a barrel, and while Whitehead does it well, that's fairly secondary to his central concerns of race, history, and identity.... Perhaps somewhat slight and somewhat obvious, but well worth reading nonetheless. For full review, see
