Mortal by Ted Dekker is the second installment in The Books of Mortals series about a land where people long ago had all of their emotions except fear stripped from them with the "Legion Virus", a genetically engineered virus, and just recently found something of a cure but are having trouble re-introducing the cure into the current culture. Book two tries to get Jonathan (the born cure) into the sovereign position, but meets with extreme difficulties, including but not limited to the fact that those around him read the prophecies around Jonathan to mean one thing when he himself seems to interpret them in an entirely different way. I believe this is supposed to corralate with the life of Christ in some ways and I can see the similarities and some variances as well. The story is well written yet I felt that Mortal, book 2, just didn't hold up as well as Forbidden, book 1. I will still be reading Sovereign which is book 3 but I hope it will more uplifting than Mortal.
