really liked it

I came across this book on my shelves a couple of weeks ago, I don't know how long it had been there, the pages were yellowing. I liked the yellowing, real pages, a real book and since I was unable to finish the last Doris Lessing book I tried - Briefing for a Descent into Hell - I was determined to give this a go. I loved the beginning and was pulled in, she writes with such clarity and authority, though at times the strangeness became too much and I simply didn't know what she meant. Dystopian novels are not usually my thing but I believed totally in the 'real' world she described and also the parallel world behind the walls, though that was when I would lose patience, when the meaning of these parallel scenes was unclear. My favourite character was without doubt Hugo, the ugly yellow cat/dog, I loved him and feared for him. Definitely a novel worth reading.
