I wanted to love this book, after all it has all the elements of a story I should love: magic, adventure, all the fantasy bits. However, it just fell really short for me. I felt like I was reading a story my 12 year old would write. Everything just was so easy for this kid and worked out perfectly for him. I can see from that why my kids loved it so much, but for me it was irritating. It took me almost a month to read it because it never caught my interest and could easily put me to sleep. Could there be more camping, eating and sleeping?

Lizzy Totally agree with you, Jenny. Absolutely. It was a flat, boring, book that doesn't deserve to be catagorized as "epic" fantasy.

Ryelor I agree with you both! I still think Forman could have pulled it out in the end if Alex had have been eaten by Slathbog. At least it would have raised my review from 2 to 2.5 stars.
