really liked it
bookshelves: ya-crossover, contemporary-fiction, historical-fiction

I picked this up in the airport and wasn't expecting to like this book, but I did. I loved the connection between the older woman and the troubled teen in the Maine setting. The historical parts read like a grim Little House on the Prairie. This would make an excellent YA crossover book. My only criticism was that the ending was a bit saccharine.

Sarah Laurence A good blend of historical and contemporary fiction with strong crossover appeal to teen readers.
