I have never really been a big fan of Suspense, then I found Romantic Suspense, and then I found Julie Garwood!!! I first found her when I read Sizzle (I know out of order, and it killed me when I found out because I hate reading out of order). I fell in love with her style almost instantly, so I knew I was going to love this book.
Nick Buchanan is the best of the best, but even the best of best needs a mental break from a job like his. He felt like there was no place in his life for love or a family and resigned himself to that. Then he gets a phone from his best friend Father Tommy, who got a creepy threat from some psycho with a grudge that confessed to a murder and advised of his attentions on his sister Laurent. Despite the fact that he was suppose to be on Vacation he immediately ran to Kansas and Holy Oaks to protect her.
Laurent Madden is a very sweet, loving, and generous person, she never meets and stranger. She self reliant and after spending so much time away from brother she frets over him since he is in recovery from cancer. She doesn't complain but she also doesn't like to put herself out there. However she finds out that her brother was visited by some crazy man that confessed to a murder set his sights on her. She puts her neck out because she wants it to stop with her, so that no other women get hurt.
This book has it all for me, the high suspense had me chewing off my fingernails and, the creepy factor had me hiding under the covers, the sweet romantic and outwardly funny moments had me smiling like an idiot. I loved How Father Tommy never acknowledge the women that fawned over him, and how Noah was the most upfront and in your face, say whatever came to mind guy. I liked, no loved how Nick was terrified to fly. I thought that Laurent was a strong and brave woman but not so much that it wasn't believable. She was kind and perfect for Nick. I also loved the fact that author wasn't afraid to hurt the heroine that she allowed for trauma. This is a Definite Must read for everybody.
