Wow, I liked this so much more than I expected! The older cover and black-and-white interior didn't spark my interest so much as, say, Amulet, but this book is worth a look. Avi's "comic-book novel" was penned in 1993, way before graphic novels were cool, but I still found this modern myth of summer vs. winter to be a page-turner, with intrepid child heroes (non-Caucasian, to boot), a blind villain, parents in disguise, and a dash of real magic. The artwork by Brian Floca is loose and expressive, and gives a vivid sense of NYC in the snow.
