This is a collection of articles written by Chris Rose a journalist at the Times Picayune about life in New Orleans after Katrina. He paints vivid pictures of a city deserted with traffic lights that work but no cars and a man slumped over his table on the porch across the street who the neighbors presume is a Halloween decoration but is really a corpse. Some of the articles are heart breaking, others bring out the absolute love that natives have for this city. I did not read this book cover to cover but took a taste here and a taste there. The writer's personal tragedy of deciding to stay in the city while his wife and children stayed where they had found refuge in Maryland is heartbreaking and brings home the diaspora caused by Katrina.
