I've always loved stories about dystopian futures, and this was no exception. Orwell has a knack for overexagerrating ideas in such a way that they seem ridiculous, but when you step back and think about it, you realize that he is merely doing it for effect and his seemingly ridiculous concepts are not so far off from reality. Many of the Party beliefs, such as doublethink, are ued almost regularly in everyday life, even though the reader would probably scoff at the way it is used in the story because it seems so unrealistic. I would have maybe preferred that the "hero" had overcome the world he lived in rather than being subdued by it, but it probably would have taken away a greater part of the impact the book intended.
