** spoiler alert ** That Summer is really an terrific book. Haven, the main character, is 15 years old, millimeters away from being 6 feet, and unhappy with her height. Her older sister is getting married to a guy named Lewis who appears to be a dull as a piece of dry toast. To top things off, her father, who just divorced Haven's mom, got married to the "Weather Pet," Lorna Queen, a young, blonde, flirty little thing who is now pregnant with their first child. Haven can't believe how everything is turning out for her. It seems like everything is crashing down and she is getting buried under it. That is until Ashley's old boyfriend Sumner Lee comes back. Memories of that summer with Sumner come rushing back to Haven. With everything that has happened in the past year, Haven feels that Sumner and those memories of Virginia Beach are all she can hold on to that are still memories of the good times; that is until she discovers what really happened between Sumner and Ashley.
Can Haven bring herself to understand that things aren't always what they seem?
