This historical fiction text about the great sparrow genocide in China amazed my students. They grew to be invested and interest in this topic because they were shocked that it actually occurred as was I. The main character in this text exudes creativity, kindness and bravery. Her wisdom is under-appreciated until the end of the text, when her ingenuity saves the day. Unique and wonderful illustrations. It was also a great text to read in class to bring in that multicultural dimension.
