This is an intricate and enjoyable mystery set in the dark ages of Britain during Henry 2's rule.

The main character is a female pathologist who studies the causes of death.

And no, it doesn't always work. There's the occasional bit thrown in to show that she's fighting against the odds in a chauvinistic world, but really, she's too modern a character to be completely believable.

On the other hand there's lots of action, adventure, and forensics, which I like.
