really liked it
bookshelves: japanese, read-2009

It took me forever to read this book. You become totally immersed in the details of the four Makioka sisters' lives and in Japanese culture. Not exciting as there is little plot, but simply fascinating.

Elizabeth (Alaska) I've put this on my Wish List, but it may take me forever to get to it. ;-)

Pamk I remember reading this a couple of years ago, and really enjoyed it too. I found the cultural aspects of the novel really interesting. You're right Shelley, there really isn't much actual plot - it's more a book with a sense of place and time and you immerse yourself in it as you read it.
