I was in an airport bar last weekend, this book was on my table (because I was reading it), and a woman asked me if I liked it. I'd only read about 80 pages, so I said I didn't really know, and she said she hated it. Too wordy. Plot's great, but he really goes off on tangents, she said. I said, isn't it really rich in historical detail? She said yeah, but still too long. I should've asked her what she *did* enjoy, then, but I was trying to watch the Yankees game and didn't feel like getting in to it.
