really liked it
bookshelves: nonfiction

Really engaging story of gang life in Chicago in the early 90s. It's a quick read, and it Sudhir emerges as an interesting character -- he rolls with the punches enough and keeps coming back enough that eventually he learns a lot about life in a Chicago project. I know some people think he's a little full of himself, but I appreciated Sudhir's warmth and (measured, but real) self-deprecation. Funny at times and sad at many more times, it's an important portrayal of a type of life that is not familiar to much of America.
