Another interesting teen mystery from Abrahams, featuring new characters and a male protagonist. High school football quarterback Cody is seriously injured during a big game, locking him out of the season, and this event is a catalyst for pretty much destroying his drive to achieve. He eventually drops out of school and begins to work full time; he breaks up with Clea, his adored girlfriend, before she is packed off to boarding school in Vermont, and tries to stay out of his alcoholic father's way. Then the news hits: Clea is missing. Cody packs up and drives across country to try to aid in her recovery--and finds himself in the middle of a mystery. Is Clea dead? Injured? Abducted? No one can find her. I didn't think the mystery itself was all that compelling. The appeal of this novel lies in the characters, and Abrahams' customarily thoughtful and powerful writing. Should appeal to teen boys, but any fans of the Echo Falls series should try this one too.
