It's been awhile since I read Another Country, so my memory is a little foggy, but I do know that reading this book felt like taking a whirlwind ride through the vast spectrum of human emotion. Baldwin cuts through all of the posturing of a supposedly enlightened, creative group of people in 1960s Manhattan to get to their core prejudices. I sometimes wonder whether I would enjoy this book as much today as I did when I read it as a junior in high school, but I do know that Baldwin is one of the best American writers with whom I am familiar.
