it was amazing
bookshelves: classics, own, favourites

Heart wrenching. A truly great story and portrayal of human nature.

The characters are remarkable. From Piggy, Jack, Roger, Samneric (aka Sam and Eric), Johnny, the boy with the mulberry mark, and Ralph and Simon who reminded me of myself. Also let us not forget the amazingness of a certain Percival Wemys Madison of The Vicarage, Harcourt St Anthony, Hants.

I think the ideas of the book are summed up by this final quote.

"Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man's heart, and the fall through the air of the true, wise friend called Piggy."

Simon's life and death were truly heart wrenching. He was the only one who really understood.
