it was amazing
bookshelves: fantasy, ya, read-in-2009

The princess Ani is betrothed to marry the prince in the neighboring kingdom and is sent through the mountains with her maid and her guard for her marriage day. However, nothing goes as planned.

Shannon Hale does an excellent job putting her character through trials and tribulations, and I was frustrated that nothing was easy for this shy and insecure princess. The entire book, I was on the edge of my seat, and I cheered as I watched her grow from the awkward princess into the confident goose girl.

In a couple years, I will be reading this one with my kids, and I look forward to reading more stories by Shannon Hale.
