A solid 4 ½ stars!

Kyla has had a rough year. Her best friends have talked her into a two week stay at a Montana dude ranch to get her heart and body on the road to healing. Being on the ranch brings back happy memories of her childhood and the two weeks every summer would spend in Vermont on her Grandparent’s farm. Those were the happy days before bad choices ruined it all. Decker has promised Ma he would help her this summer. He left his home and business in LA to come back to the one place he loves with all his heart but can’t stay. Kyla and Decker notice each other from the start, but Kyla and her friends will only be at the ranch for two weeks, neither are much for flings and it is not possible to fall in love and want to change your whole life after only knowing someone two weeks, or is it?

Kyla and Decker are both broken; and both find it hard to forgive themselves for things many forgave them for long ago. It took them a long time to give into their attraction. My favorite scene was when they danced; even though there was some “drama” in that scene I loved the emotion and when they each realized they weren’t alone in their attraction. There were a few times I wanted to kick Decker for how he treated Kyla, but in the end he redeemed himself.

This is a fantastically written book, especially the dialog. There were times I laughed out loud. The secondary characters were just as great as the hero and heroine. Decker’s brother Cole is a great cowboy; and his support of his brother is incredible. Often time authors write a character in Cole’s situation as vindictive; holding onto pain and lashing out. Cole however was written in a way that showed he cared about the big picture, he was probably more mature than many a cowboy his age would be; that endeared him to me. Kyla’s best friends are warm and quirky. I loved their bond and how they cared for each other. The plot and characters drove this book; I didn’t even miss the lower level of sizzle. Different than some novels I have read lately the sex scenes are implied and all warm up to the intimacy was light on the steam scale.

Maggie McGinnis shines in her debut novel for LoveSwept! This book was a breath of fresh air for me. It was light and fun to read. Every character, even the meddlesome ex-girlfriend, was written with great detail (my prediction we have not seen the last of her). For the most part they have turned into old friends that I can’t wait to check in on again. In GoodReads this book is indicated as the first book in a series – I hope that is true! I will definitely be on the lookout for more books by Maggie McGinnis.

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley for my honest review.
