bookshelves: horror-thriller

A young customer in my store recommended this book, and was there to buy the sequel. Her enthusiasm led to me read it myself. I really like the creative "reality" that that McMann was able to sustain, and her characters were likeable (however, Cabel seemed a bit too good to be true), but it sure did wrap up neatly. I'm not running for the sequel, since, at this point, I "get it" and I don't have a desire to know more. Maybe I just haven't read a teen novel recently enough, but it seemed that issues involving alcohol and drug use, lesbianism, and child abuse were treated as so run-of-mill they didn't warrant anything but a passing reference. Well, of course the rich girl is having sexual fantasies about her best friend. Duh! And I wish I could manipulate my dreams so easily after one day at the library!
