really liked it

I am beginning to think that Milan Kundera's literary essays are just as worth reading as his fiction is. The Czech novelist (now living in France) brings his small-country background to bear in discussing the literature of 20th century Europe. I was particularly moved at his plea for Americans and Western Europeans to accept the former Soviet satellites as more European in their literary tradition than lumping them with the Russians (great as they may be).
