this is the perfect "beach" read for people who typically abhor beach reads. smiley is so fucking smart, it was fun to try to keep up with her. she populates her story with about 8 or 9 characters and takes you through almost each of their point of views, allowing them to be fully fleshed out people. yes, it's a playful satire about all things hollywood, but having so many characters also allows her to create this great ongoing dialogue about the war in iraq, and what our world is coming to. it politically adept writing and i admire her for it. plus there's some great sex in here--which only adds to the fun.
