What just happened?

I was so disappointed. I adored A Discovery of Witches and Shadow of Night, but I feel like this book did not tie up any loose ends, answer any questions, or really provide any satisfaction for the build-up of the previous two novels.

A few of my main concerns:

Ashmole 782? (view spoiler)

Diana and Matthew and the covenant In the first two novels, their love is made out to be some intense taboo a la interracial couples in 1950s Mississippi, but as the novel goes on, no one seems to care.

Father Hubbard Is he a good guy or a bad guy? Why are they such jerks to him? He seems like a pretty stand-up guy.

Time travel EMT service? (view spoiler)

What was the whole point, anyway? Would this series have ended differently if Diana and Matthew had never discovered Ashmole 782 and had just started dating for the same reasons anyone else starts dating the person they eventually marry?

Sarah Verkuil turner Did we read the same book? lol. regarding Ashmole 782: it was in the Book of Life that Dianna was able to find the answer of why she and Matthew were able to conceive, which led to the repeal of the covenant, which was the answer to the mystery of why creatures power was weakening and dying out.

Diane Allen Jess, I feel exactly like you! I didn't actually throw the book...wanted to, I did that with Mockingjay, anyway, your critique is right on.

Beverlie Capawana Either I forgot what happened with Gallowglass and Diana or I truly missed that entire thing. Can anyone give me the info on this?

kimberly HAHAHAHA - so true about father hubbard. what the hell was up with that?

Angie I agree with father Hubbard! I also felt that there were many loose ends in this book. I did not understand Philippe's warnings about things to come if this their story is over in book three??

Maria Teran I agree! What happened to Gallowglass? It is so frustrating!

Samantha Dudes. Gallowglass was in love with Diana and he removed himself because he couldn't stand that she and Matthew were able to have children/Matthew was the one Diana was supposed to be with.

Anika Thank you!! Those are all excellent questions which deserved better answers.

Vina Le I'm still pissed off with Gallowglass falling in love with Diana and going from being there to disappearing to being there to disappearing again. WTF he went from not really mattering to being mini Mathew when Mathew decided to freak out.

Madeleine Allcock I like that you are still mad! I just finished it and I agree, it was a weird book and badly written, disappointing. All the way through I was waiting for Diana to go back in time to console a dying Philippe like his letter implied, there was a lot of loose endings that didn't feel like they were thought provoking cliffhangers, more like the author had forgotten to write them in. Why did her dad appear out of nowhere when killing Knox? I didn't feel anything for any of the characters, maybe because they were Mary Sues, but I knew they would rescue Matthew so it wasn't interesting. In fact if he had died I wouldn't have cared much. His character completely changed throughout the trilogy and not in a development type of way. If Benjamin already had children, why didn't Diana do anything with that information? But mostly, what was the point of A782? If they are going ahead with the tv show, maybe they will make it better.

Rebecca Ya'll I didn't even make it past book 1, glad I didn't bother. Maybe there were good things to glean from this series, but clearly not anything I'm interested in.

MISSed Bandwagon Elias Ashmole was the earliest known person to lay claim to the book. And you need to have a certain number of artifacts and things in place to timewalk. And the goddess probably wouldn't have allowed her to do that.

But yeah, the ending was bullshit.
