Fascinating extrapolation of current events. After a terrorist bombs the San Francisco Bay Bridge, the Federal Department of Homeland Security declares martial law. Marcus is swept up in the first wave of interrogations for being in the wrong place at the wrong time -- and in reaction to the experience launches a revolution. Teens are sure to find Marcus appealing. Even non-techies will understand the computer applications described in the novel, as Doctorow seamlessly incorporates descriptions into events. The book gives readers plenty to ponder -- great choice for book discussions.
