I read this years ago. It looks like it is just going to be like an excuse to write about lots of sex, but then it surprises you with depth and beauty, as well as plenty of action, in every sense of the word. It takes a while to hit, but the very premise of the book is subversive. It is about a beautiful pawn, who gets batted about and tortured by people in power. The wrinkle is that the pawn is a true masochist and LOVES being tortured! This, along with pluck and brains and a heart of gold lets the courtesan win the day.
