Average at best.

A few times I was thinking “shouldn’t I be done with this soon?” It was easy to put down. I was not drawn in. And a couple things bothered me - in spoilers.

(view spoiler)

These events annoyed me. They are overused plot devices for romance novels to provide angst and conflict. They do not make a good story.

Reggie’s big problem was alcoholism. There was nothing different about it. I felt like I’ve heard it before.

The sex scenes were there, but I wasn’t feeling romance or passion. It was written in the 1980s and feels like it.

Narrative mode: 3rd person. Story length: 396 pages. Swearing language: mild including religious swear words. Sexual language: mild. Number of sex scenes: about 4. Setting: 1817 England. Copyright: 1989. Genre: regency romance.
