really liked it
bookshelves: art, renaissance
Read in November, 2009

Piles of detail made this book heavy going at first, but also an valuable and generous source of information. The most engaging parts of the book showed how art objects expressed the values of and struggles of their owners and patrons. The sections on Kateryn Parr and Margaret Douglas were fascinating. The chapters on Susanna Horenboult and Lievine Teerlinc were eye-opening on the influence and skill of these artists.
