really liked it
bookshelves: question-reality, self-image, young-adult, gender-identity

The premise of this book was unique and interesting. It also allowed for the exploration of gender identity and sexual orientation in an interesting way. I found Jill to be dull and really sympathized with Jack, which was likely the point as Jill was dull through her repression which extended far beyond the supression of Jack.

My main criticism of this book is the lack of exploration of the motivations of the parents beyond "my parents are complicated people." Granted Jill/Jack was the center of this story. But the power dynamic between the parents played in so heavily to the events surrounding Jack/Jill that it would have been nice to have a little more insight into how the dysfunction came to be.
