This peculiar version of a Grimm fairy tale doesn't seem to really have a point. A brother and sister are left alone on the farm, get into all kinds of trouble through their own carelessness and stupidity, and somehow manage to set things aright before their parents get home. I don't understand why Daniel San Souci, the illustrator, chose to use animals dressed as humans, when humans would have worked just as well. I generally like Robert San Souci's books, but this is not one of his best.

Miriam As a kid I was always kind of confused by picture books with animals that behaved *exactly* like people...
