Winning the Gollywhopper Games cash prize would alleviate some of the problems Gil's family had encountered since Gil's dad had been fired from his position at the Golly Toy Co. over a year ago. Even after Gil's dad was found innocent of the charges of theft from the company, Gil felt friendless and his father was still unemployed. Just becoming a participant in the Games pitted him against thousands of other youngsters, but Gil emerged one of ten lucky children engaged in the finals of the competition. The Games are a series of challenges that first require teamwork, brainpower and physical activities. When the game comes to the final individual competition with five players, Gil wonders how long he can survive the rigorous mental play. Readers will enjoy solving the puzzles with the contestants and learning the final outcome.
