The marvelous Ellen Raskin's first book for older children has puzzles, adventures, orphans, horses, mistaken identities, and purple flowered dresses. What more could you ever want? Little Dumpling (Caroline) Fish is married at the age of five to the son of her parents' business partners, Leon Carillon. They're separated, and she has only his brief notes to go on when she grows up and can search for him. But the messages are not complete. Tina and Tony, the twin orphans she adopts, want to help her, but they don't know Leon--who changed his name to Noel--and they would be much happier if she'd marry her persistent suitor.
