I realize that this novel is masterful, but I can't drag myself through it, I think because the narrator reminds me so much of various dudes I've known and disliked: he's sour, angry, brilliant, and contemptuous of anyone who resorts to false cheer or chitchit in order to make an awkward social situation slightly more manageable.
