I found this to be an interesting and useful trip down memory lane. It gave me some ideas about teens and reading (good for my job) and helped me remember books I had half-forgotten I'd read.

Other reviewers have done a better job of explaining the specific pros and cons of the book. The thing to remember is that teens still read these books, and it's good for librarians and anyone who works with teens to know why certain books appeal to teens. These appeal factors can also apply to more current books, as the "teen classics" reviewed are a couple of decades old now.

My thinking was that this book might provide some insight into why teens like certain books, and "Shelf Discovery" did provide some reasons for liking the various books (i.e. the appeal of self-sufficiency in survival stories, the satisfaction of not always getting a happy ending, and so on). So, it was useful, and as I said, fun to recall the reading material of my youth.
