Ages 11+ (violence, a touch of romance)

Fifteen year old Alexis hasn't had a true friend since her friend Beth moved away a few years ago. She's stuck with the freak contingent at school, an absentee dad, a career-driven mom, and a thirteen year old sister who plays with dolls. Instead of friends, she channels her energy into black and white photography.

But when her younger sister Kasey starts acting strange, Alexis has to turn to people she once considered her nemeses for advice. Could Kasey really be possessed by something inside the house? And what does this dangerous spirit want? Thinly drawn characters keep the book in the realm of readable but unremarkable. But for girls who are ready to graduate from Mary Downing Hahn, anyone willing to overlook these flaws will discover a ghost story creepier and more well-realized than recent genre titles such as Project 17.
