it was amazing
bookshelves: absolute-favorites, classics

I cannot put into words how unbelievably LAME I feel for not having read this book before now. HELLO??????? What planet did I grow up on? Shame on my hoity-toity Fairfax County English teachers for not having required this one of me...

That aside, what an incredible book. I had seen the movie (cheating, I know--but how can you resist Gregory Peck???) and did not fully appreciate, until reading the book, Scout's endearing personality as the narrator. What a perfect choice for a voice! And Atticus is a great parenting model, I think. We also need more neighborhoods like this one in America--minus the creepy guy who tries to kill kids. Kids need to play outside more, have opportunities to use their imaginations and entertain themselves. Also, did anyone else keep hoping that Miss Maudie and Atticus would get married at the end? Oh well... A sequel, anyone??? Just a few of my random thoughts while reading this.

I really can't say all that I feel about this book, but what an absolute JOY it was to read it. 50 years old and it still hits the mark...
