Maisie Dobbs is a brilliant book. With an intriguing story, an intelligent and intuitive heroine and a nice little mystery, it makes a wonderful read. Maisie is very likable, and Billy is a terrific fit in the role of detective's assistant. I just tore through it, unable to stop reading. The flashbacks let us know Maisie's past without revealing all there is to know. I laughed, I pondered and at the end, I cried.
