Jeanette What happens when what you think you know about your mother turns out to be just the opposite? At age 16, Laurel Nicolson witnesses a violent act by her mother, which is explained away and leaves her mother untainted. All her life Laurel is troubled by this and when her mother is on her deathbed, Laurel is determined to find out what really happened, and why. As she and her sisters tend to her mother, Laurel secretly researches her mother's past, and with the help of her brother, comes to a startling conclusion. This is a very suspenseful story with parallel plots, one that takes place during WWII, and the other in current time. Beautifully plotted, and completely believable, this is a book that's hard to put down.
