really liked it
bookshelves: fiction

Loved it. Probably even better than 'The Blackwater Lightship' (I still have not read 'The Master', criminal, I know). The characters were just so well drawn, the story so engaging. And the settings were just so beautifully set, really envoking the times (or how I imagine 1950s Ireland and Brooklyn). I could not put the book down, because I wanted to know how Eilis' story would play out. And always in the back of my head, I kept thinking: where is she in all of this? The story seems to be happening around her, involving her, but which decisions were actually hers? Brilliantly written. I was not sure whether to be sad or elated at the end.
