I usually like my hitting-bottom memoirs to be laced with dry, world-weary humor, at least a little bit. It helps me sleep at night. In My Skin pulls no punches about the life Kate Holden led while addicted to heroin. She seems to have lived her addiction in reverse: bottoming out early on in her drug use, turning tricks as a street prostitute. As her working conditions improve by moving into a brothel, and then successively nicer brothels, the intense hold the addiction has over her wanes.
