Pornland: How Porn Has Hijacked Our Sexuality

It took me a while to finish this book, as it really is very overwhelming in its uncompromising, honest look at mainstream pornography today and all it's misogynistic, pedophilic, racist nature. Dines conducts content analyses of popular pornography genres to offer a cutting sociological breakdown of what the images, words, and symbols patterned in porn really mean for the consumer, and ultimately, our society. I love Dines's work and this is one of those game changer books. White supremacist patriarchal capitalist structures (in the words of bell hooks) are defiling and destroying society's most vulnerable for the enjoyment of the privileged. This is more than sexual gratification, this is about upholding a violent sensibility against women and children. Pornography today represents the essence of hating women, and offers scripts for the maintenance of the system. I can't recommend this book enough; especially relevant for feminists and for any men and women who are on the fence about pornography. This isn't a matter of live and let live, this is a matter of life and death.
