"The 25th Hour" is a novel that reads more like a short story or novella. David Benioff's writing is incredibly descriptive, sometimes uncomfortably so. It's a quick read, and one of those stories where it's hard to like any of the characters but you still care what happens to them.
The story is set in New York. A group of friends prepare to see on of their number go off to jail for seven years. All of the action takes place in a very short window of time, or in flashbacks. The characters' world is presented in a very believable way, which impressed me because their world is so different from the one in Benioff's later novel "City of Thieves."
