The introduction - though overbearing / overwrought - is critical to understanding the importance and nuances of the book. Likewise for the Letter to Martin Dorp that concludes the volume. My readings of the renaissance and understanding of the critical moments is lacking ... but I always wonder what the real impact of philosophy / theology is and how the message is disseminated in a culture where learning is so unevenly distributed. What does a book like this really mean to the trajectory of the age?
