Well, once again, Sookie has managed to get herself into yet another mess. This time it’s all Eric’s fault. Bill has gone to Peru, thank Gawd, and now Sookie is on her own, but not really. Every supernatural man she meets or knows continues to fall at her feet but that is to be expected at this point. After all, she has been blessed in the boob department, has lovely long blonde hair, an expansive vocabulary (thanks to her word of the day calendar), and she knows things, cause she read about them in mystery and romance novels. How do I know this? Well, Sookie only mentions them about 10 times through out this book. This is slightly escalated from book three, where she mentioned these facts only a handful of times.

Back to Eric, he has created all sorts of chaos due to his refusal to help an evil witch reproduce and pay her off to leave him and his business alone. As punishment, the evil witch erases his memory, and as a result, he is left running naked in the woods, which is where Sookie finds him. He doesn’t know who she or even who he himself is, but he comes to her, for the above mentioned reasons I’m sure, and naturally, he quickly attaches himself to her. To make things more complicated, Jason disappears after a late night rendezvous with a girl he met at Wal Mart, who as it turns out is a were-panther. Don’t worry, you haven’t missed anything, were-panthers haven’t been mentioned prior to this book, nor has the creepy hick town that they apparently live in, though it is only 10 miles from Bon Temp.

As usual, there are several stories rolled into one in this installment of the Sookie series. I was so hoping to love this one as it is filled with Eric moments, but as Eric is memory-less, he is also void of the personality I have come to love. And as Eric is my reason for reading this series, I didn’t really care for this book. There are moments that I enjoyed, and the time passes by quickly, but it is terribly easy to set this book aside and became increasingly difficult to pick back up and finish. I didn’t dislike it, but I didn’t like it either. I was simply indifferent. I suppose I will get around to completing this series eventually, but I have to admit, Harris is loosing me. Sookie is stupid and becomes more and more annoying with every book. If it weren’t for Eric, I would have given up after book 1. Better luck next time and there better be more Eric!
