The drawings in this are delicate pen & inks (I think) that seem to be biomorphic w/o being specifically representational - somewhat like Ernst Haeckel drawings but of imaginary hybird flora/fauna. They remind me the most of underground cartoon renderings of drug-heightened perception of the ALIVENESS of everything. On the title page Bum Lee is called a "Funambulist" & that's the closest I can get to the meaning of the title of the bk. There're also 4 short 1 page poems. The 1st stanza of the 1st poem:
"We painted only shadows - groaning at dawn,
the deep squat ones crawling on bellies -
the long legged ones stretched in the sunset,
dancing across hills - etched into copper,
chiseled on stone blocks, groaning at dawn -"
At the back, there're instructions for how to download the bk & make yr own copy - complete w/ binding info. Encyclopedia Destructica is heading in this direction w/ all their bks - it makes the bks cheaper for the receiver but much more labor intensive. Encyclopedia Destructica has almost wkly binding parties where they put their publications together w/ all volunteer labor. This enables them to put a higher-than-average amt of hand-touchs in & probably helps prevent the editors/publishers from getting completely burnt out. Despite this collaborative work effort, their products are still not likely to be churned out forever. This makes the online availabilty a good idea. Nonetheless, I know that no-one who gets my own bk, "HiTEC (Histrionic Thought Experiment Cooperative) "Systems Management"", from online is going to be even remotely capable of reproducing it in its full glory. As such, I hope that ED continues w/ their hard copy publishing for a long time to come.
