it was amazing
bookshelves: favorites, ya, fantasy, science-fiction, romance

This series is seriously addicting. It makes me gasp, cry, laugh, and scream at the ceiling saying "WHYYYYY??????". This is almost beyond a five star book in my opinion.

Katy and Daemon were once again the centerpiece in this story and their romance grows - like a lot. They finally both realize that they love each other. However they aren't the only centerpiece. With Dawson back, their next mission is to get Beth back from the DOD and to unravel the web of lies and figure out their master plan.

I loved the plot line. Ms. Armentrout managed to connect Katy's regular life with her hybrid life and doesn't just 'forget' about her normal life. They are very much intertwined and I loved that. There was a LOT happening in this book and a lot to explain - I think Ms. Armentrout did a pretty dang good job of making sure we (as readers) understood everything and if we didn't get it the first time, there was mostly a second time with dumbed down explaining.

Overall, this was a solid five star book - the ending made me literally scream "WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT????" and just sit in shock for a few minutes trying to absorb what it all means! I don't think you'll be disappointed!

“Dawson shifted, dropping his head into his hand. "Do you ever stop talking?"

"When I'm sleeping," Blake replied.

"And when you're dead," Daemon threw back. "You'll stop talking when you're dead."

Blake's lips thinned. "Point taken.”

“Kitten..." "Don't Kitten me." I scowled, on a roll now. "You left around five or so and didn't get back till when? Past two in the morning? What were you guys doing? And get that stupid smile off your face. This isn't funny." Daemon tried to get rid of the smile but failed. "I love when your claws come out.”

Hell froze over. Pigs were flying. "Come again?"
"You're right. I should have checked in at some point. I'm sorry."
The world was flat. I didn't know what to say. According to Daemon, he was right about 99 percent of the time. Wow.”

“I love you, Katy. Always have. Always will," he said, voice thick and hoarse with panic. "I will come back for you. I will-" The emergency doors sealed shut with a soft thud. "I love you," I said, but Daemon...Daemon was gone.”

“Daemon snatched the yellow packages from my hands. “Oh! Books! You have books!”
I laughed as several people waiting in line looked over their shoulders. “Hand them over.”
He clutched them to his chest, making moony eyes. “My life is now complete.”
“My life would be complete if I could actually post a review on something other than the school library computers.”
I did that about twice a week since my latest laptop went to the big computer heaven in the sky.”

“A slow, wry smile teased Daemon’s lips. "Simmer down, Kitten, before I have to get you a ball of yarn to play with."

“I have the feeling we just made a deal with the devil, and he's going to come back and want our first-born child or something."

“Daemon spoke in his language. The lyrical quality of his words made no sense to me.

“What did you say?” I asked.

“There’s really no translation for it,” he said, “but the closest human words would be, you are beautiful to me.”

“His eyes searched mine. "Thank you."

"For What?" I loved the feel of his arms around me and how I fit against him, hard against soft. He trailed his fingers over my arm, and I was amazed by how he could make me shiver.

"For everything," he said.”

“Honestly, as much as I love my brother, I’m not sure how I feel about him hanging out in your bedroom.” He reached out with a muscular arm and used his fingers to brush a few strands of hair off my cheek, tucking them behind my ear. I shivered, and he smiled. “I feel like I need to mark my territory.” “Shut up.” “Oh, I love it when you get all bossy-pants. It’s sexy.”

“He…he kisses like he’s dying of thirst, and I’m water.” I smacked my hands over my hot face. “I can’t believe I just said that out loud.” Lesa giggled. “Sounds like one of those romance books you read.” “It does.” I started giggling. “But, oh Lordie Lord, it’s true. I’m like a puddle of mush when he kisses me. It’s embarrassing. I’m so, like, ‘Thank you, can I have another?’ Sad.”

“I keep smiling, giving Ash a little wink before turning around. Daemon stood there with two cups, one eyebrow arched.
"Bad little Kitten," he murmured.

“Daemon was standing in the doorway of my bedroom. Hair messy from sleep, flannel pajama bottoms rumpled. No shirt. Three feet plus of snow outside, and he was still half naked.”

“Just behave and don’t do anything you’ll regret in the morning." Her gaze drifted over my shoulder, and she mustered, “Wouldn’t be much.”

“A smell of burned hair and cotton wafted into the air as I spun toward my desk. There was a low whine from the desk and then smoke billowed out of my closed laptop.

“Oh, dear God and baby Jesus in the manger, my eyes!” Dee shrieked. “My eyes!”
My own eyes snapped open. Daemon lifted his head, eyes luminous. Then I realized my hands were still up his shirt. I yanked them out.
“Oh my God,” I whispered, mortified.
Daemon said something that burned my ears. “Dee, you didn’t see anything.” And then he added much lower, “Because you have impeccable timing.”
“You were on…her and your mouths were doing this.” I could just imagine her hand signals at that point. She went on. “And that’s more than I want to see. Like, ever.”

“Kitten…” “Hmm?” I fisted the covers. “Just making sure you’re still with me.” He kissed the side of my leg, right above my knee. “Don’t want you falling asleep or anything.” Like sleep was possible. Ever.”

“The smile was still on his face, but his words were like the arctic winds. “You don’t talk to her. At all.” There was no stopping He-Man when he came out to play.”

“Daemon was sprawled on his back, one arm stretched across the space beside him and the other rested across his bare stomach. Sheets were twisted around his narrow hips. His face was almost angelic in sleep, chiselled lines softened and lips relaxed. Thick lashes fanned the top of his cheeks. He looked so much younger at rest but, in a weird way, he was even more out of my league. His kind of masculine beauty was otherworldly and intimidating. Something that existed in between the pages of the books I read. Sometimes I had a hard time convincing myself he was real.”

“He immediately started charming my mom until she was nothing but a gooey puddle in the middle of the foyer.
He loved her new haircut. She got one?I guessed her hair did look different.Like she’d washed it or something.Daemon told her that the diamond earrings were beautiful. The rug below the steps was really nice. And that leftover scent of mystery dinner—because I still hadn’t figured out what she fed me—smelled divine. He admired nurses worldwide, and by that point,I couldn’t keep my eye rolls to a minimum.

Daemon was ridiculous.”

“And no one will kill Bill.”

I laughed softly as I unbuckled the seat belt. “Blake. His name is Blake.”

Daemon pulled the keys out and leaned back, his eyes glimmering with amusement. “He’s whatever I decide to call him.”

“Hey!” Dawson yelled from the front door. “I think Dee caught the microwave on fire. Again. And I tried popping some popcorn with my hands and it kind of went wrong. Like really, really wrong.”
Daemon pressed his forehead against mine and growled. “Dammit.”

“But next time, we need to kind of...oh, I don't know, talk first and then throw people through windows later." Daemon crossed his arms. "Can we try that?”

“This was it. And it was right. Perfect without the dinner, movies, and flowers, because how could you really plan something like this?
You couldn't
Daemon sat back-
A fist pounded on the door, and Andrew's voice intruded.
"Daemon, are you awake?"
We stared at each other in disbelief. "If I ignore him," he whispered, "do you think he'll go away?"
My hands dropped to my sides. "Maybe"
The pounding came again. "Daemon, I really need you downstairs. Dawson is ready to go back to Mount Weather. Nothing Dee or I are saying to him is making a bit of difference. He's like a suicidal Energizer bunny."
Daemon squeezed his eyes shut. "Son of a bitch..."
"It's okay." I started to sit up. "He needs you."
He let out a ragged sigh. "Stay here and get some rest. I'll talk-or beat some sense into him." He kissed me briefly and then gently pushed me back down. "I'll be back."
Settling in, I smiled. "Try not to kill him."
"No promises." He stood, pulled on his pajama bottoms, and headed for the door. Stopping short, he looked over his shoulder, his intense gaze melting my bones. "Dammit."
A few seconds after he stepped out into the hallway and closed the door behind him, there was a fleshly smack and then Andrew yelling. "Ouch. What in the hell was that for?"
"Your timing sucks on an epic level," Daemon shot back.”
