This should get 3 1/2 stars. Pelecanos is writing to formula in this story of youthful crime and adult redemption. It is also an exploration of father/son relations. Four incorrigible young men meet in a juvenile prison and grow up together when the return to their homes in the DC area. Chris Flynn returns home to work in his father's carpet business. In the course of installing a carpet he and his partner,Ben, also a former inmate, discover something hidden under the floor. This discovery leads to tragedy and, indirectly, to the turn around of more than one life.
