Beka has become a real Dog (Provost's Guard), but she's having a hard time finding a partner who can handle her intense drive. When counterfeit money starts turning up everywhere and it becomes obvious that the harvest will be small, the Lower City breaks out in a riot as bread prices begin to rise. Beka is sent upriver to Port Caynn to investigate the source of the counterfeit coins. There she discovers a dangerous rogue, makes a few new friends, and is caught up in a whirlwind romance with an intriguing young man.

I got more into this Beka book than the last. The mystery of the silver really drew me in, and although I missed Beka's friends in Corus, there were lots of interesting characters to meet in Port Caynn. I look forward to the final book in the trilogy.
