really liked it
bookshelves: history

My mistake. I was looking for a really pithy analysis of how Rome fell and parallels to today's superpowers. What I got was an excellent review of five centuries of Roman history with only a smidgen of pith. I could have saved myself quite a bit of time if I'd paid attention to the preface. Evidently, no major discoveries have been made since Gibbon did his famous Decline and Fall. I was hoping for something that doesn't exist. If you are interested in Roman history, this really is an excellent book.
